FootprintsThis group schedule includes a variety of activities which sometimes contains a support group. Their focus is both on the loss of a child as well as other family members. They also start and run a GriefShare course for folks who have lost anyone close to them as well as individual encouragement. The Footprints newsletter is worth reading. Kinder-MournThese folks provide a wide variety of services on a sliding scale for children and adults who have lost a family member or friend. These services include groups and individual counseling for parents who have lost children of all and any ages (including during and after pregnancy) and for children through young adults who are grieving the death of a family member or friend. There are no limits to which the manner that the person died. Men's Bereavement Group (widowers) at St. Matthew A safe, comfortable and friendly place for men who have had a significant loss. Most of the members have lost a spouse, they welcome men with any loss. They create a place away from the real world where men will find others who have travelled the same path and who understand. They meet weekly at St. Matthew in the evening. Pet Grief Support GroupThis free monthly group is for anyone who is grieving the loss of a pet. It is facilitated by Wesley Sturgis, a bereavement counselor with Novant Health; veterinarian, Ginny Dodd is there to assist with medical questions. They meet on the second Thursday from 7:00PM to 8:30PM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 115 West 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28202. Enter on 7th Street. Soul Widows Support Group This group is for young widows, age 60 or younger, who have experienced the loss of their spouse or significant other. They provide an intimate space for a group of women to share their grief through speaking and listening to each others stories. The meetings allow each widow the chance to be heard, and to feel supported in a safe and supportive environment. The sponsoring organization (The Respite) also has other classes and groups relating to any type of bereavement and loss. United Way 2-1-1 (Information and Referral Service)This service provides comprehensive data and referral assistance for nonprofit and government resources in the NC counties of Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Union, and Anson counties and in or near the city of Mooresville, NC. Young Widows and Widowers Support Group [under 55] at St. GabrielAn informal gathering of men and women who have lost spouses. This meeting is especially for people under 55 (or so) and concentrates on issues common to a younger age group.
