John Hargrave Lowe passed away May 4, 2017. He was born on November 10, 1965 in Charlotte, NC to Sara Walters and Frank Robbins Lowe.
He was a 1985 graduate of Charlotte Latin School, where he was a member of several state champion varsity tennis teams. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the Order of Gimghoul Castle. John spent over twenty seven years in the promotional advertising business, starting with Fletcher Barnhardt & White. He most recently worked at Tangerine Promotions. John was a member of the Charlotte Country Club and a life-long member of Christ Episcopal Church.
John was a passionate lifelong sportsman. He cultivated many close friendships on the tennis court and golf course. John was most at home while spending time outdoors, whether fly fishing the creeks of North Carolina or hunting with his friends throughout the South. He followed these passions to places such as Linville, NC; Pawley's Island, SC; Jackson Hole, WY; and Duck, NC.
He was devoted to his wife and two daughters and the family cherished gardening, backyard cookouts and exploring the woods together. His love of his girls was demonstrated by his ever presence on the soccer field, in the classroom and his encouragement of their artistic pursuits. He met the love of his life Cathy in Atlanta, GA and found deep love and contentment by simply being with her. He had a loving and gentle nature that drew people to him in all walks of life. To be John's friend was to be a part of his family.Christ Episcopal Church was a second home to John. His devotion to the church and abiding faith was inherited from his father and grandfather, who was a founding member of the church. John's love of the church was evidenced by his service on the Vestry, his leadership on the acolyte team, and Room at the Inn program.
John was predeceased by his father, Frank Robbins Lowe, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Cavender Lowe; his loving daughters, Mary Henley Lowe and Sara Robbins Lowe; his mother, Sara Walters Lowe; his brother, Frank Robbins Lowe III (Kim); his twin brother, William Jefferson Lowe; nephew, William Robbins Lowe; and niece, Virginia Walters Lowe.
A memorial service will be held 2:00PM Tuesday, May 9th at Christ Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in All Saints' Hall.
