Mr. Robert Keith Huffstetler, age 88 of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully at Elmcroft Assisted Living on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. He was born in Charlotte on October 15, 1929 to parents Charles Henderson Huffstetler and Lou Goins Huffstetler. He retired after 43 years of employment with the US Postal Service.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kitty Monty Huffstetler; his parents; siblings, Helen Campbell, Charles H. Huffstetler, and James P. Huffstetler. He is survived by his daughter, Kay Huffstetler Barbera and her husband, Thomas, of Charlotte; siblings, Joyce H. Helms of Cornelius, NC, Joan H. Ross of Lewisburg, West Virginia, Anne H. Harrelson of Charlotte, and Daniel E. Huffstetler of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Mary Huffstetler (James) and Charlene Huffstetler (Daniel) both of Charlotte; also numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was raised in Charlotte and graduated from Harding High School. He served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne division in Fort Bragg, NC. After returning from service, he moved to Santa Monica, California where he lived and worked. His employment there took him to Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands where he assisted in the testing of the Hydrogen Bomb.
He enjoyed traveling, especially back to California, and taking beach trips with his family. Bob was always giving and helping his friends and neighbors, adored family pets, especially his favorite dog Abby. He volunteered for the American Red Cross.
A graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208 on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Charlotte or any charitable organization of your choice.
