February 2, 1927 - December 26, 2017
Carol Neumann Acker, 90, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Southminster Healthcare Center in Charlotte, NC. Carol was born on February 2, 1927 in New York City, NY to parents George and Anna Neumann. She graduated from William and Mary College in 1948 with a degree in Social Work. In 1965 Mom started working as a social worker for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. At the same time she attended UNCC to earn her Masters in Social Work and continued to maintain a lively home for her family. She retired in 1990.
While at William and Mary, Carol met Charles Price Acker and they were married on August 28, 1948 in Port Washington, NY. Charles was from VA and Carol was from NY so their 4 children were blessed by experiences from 2 different backgrounds! Both Carol and Charles raised their children with strong family values of faith, hard work and fun with a wry sense of humor.
Carol was a lifelong tennis player who played well into her 80's. Mom was an excellent cook, loved to read, sing, travel and fish. She always looked forward to the July beach trip reunion with extended family that took place for over 50 years.
Carol is survived by her children, Emmy Fitch (Mac), George Acker (Karen Calhoun), Charlie Acker (Sandy), and Martha Acker (Peter Estes); 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren (with 2 more on the way); and her beloved little sister, Audrey Lindner (Pawley's Island, SC); and many nieces and nephews.
Carol will be laid to rest beside her husband, Charles, at a private family service at a later date at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Comforter Church "Loaves and Fishes" or Memorial Gardens Fund at 2701 Park Rd., Charlotte, NC 28109.
The family would like to thank the third floor Staff and Embrace Program at Southminster for their care and support.
